We
have placed porcelain veneers on your teeth. These restorations
were placed with the finest materials and techniques available
today and you should expect several years of excellent
service from them. Please be aware of the following information
about your new porcelain restorations.
Chewing:
Avoid chewing excessively hard foods, such as hard candy,
ice, raw carrots, bones, etc., because the porcelain material
can chip or break away from the teeth under extreme forces.
Recall
Visits: Professional examinations at regular
four to six-month recall appointments are necessary. Developing
problems can be found at an early stage and repaired easily,
while waiting for a longer time may require redoing entire
restorations. We will contact you when it is time for
your recall appointment.
Preventive
Procedures: To provide optimum longevity for
your restorations and to prevent future dental decay and
supporting tissue breakdown, please use the following
preventive procedures that may have been recommended by
our office, including:
___
a. Brush with a fluoride-containing toothpaste after meals,
and clean your teeth with floss at least once a day.
___b.
Swish vigorously for 30 seconds daily with one of the
following fluoride containing rinses: (1) Colgate Fluoriguard
or (2) Johnson and Johnson ACT. The best time is immediately
before bedtime.
___c.
Use a Water Pik as directed
___d.
Use 1.1 % neutral sodium fluoride or a Fluoridex Toothpaste
as a brush-on material. These products require a prescription
from us.
___e.
Use an electric toothbrush (Crest Spin Brush Pro or Sonicare)
The
Future: You will receive several years of service
from our veneers. However, after watching veneers for
many years, we have seen the following conditions occur
occasionally, including:
a.
Possible transient/temporary biting or chewing difficulties
b. Tooth sensitivity (mostly to hot or cold). Customarily
dissipates in one to three weeks
c. Speech considerations, including possible lisping,
tongue space encroachment, copious salivary flow. Customarily
dissipate in one to three weeks.
d. Clenching or Grinding of teeth. May require Night Guard
use for one to four weeks.
e. Extreme force or trauma can break porcelain veneers,
just as similar forces can break natural teeth. Use care
in sports or other potentially traumatic situations. We
recommend an athletic mouthguard in these instances. Do
not bite extremely hard objects.
f. After a few years, veneers may develop slight stains
around the edges. Please tell us if this situation occurs.
Repairs can usually be accomplished.
g. The gums may recede from the veneers, displaying discolored
tooth structure underneath. This situation may require
veneer replacement or modifications. Any questions?? CALL
