a fulfilling year as President
the Academy of Osseointegration,
the world’s largest and leading dental organization
dedicated to the advancement of dental implants
and tissue replacement.
The Academy
of Osseointegration (www.osseo.org)
was founded in 1982 to foster education and research
in the growing field of dental implants. Since
its inception, the Academy has grown to over 4,800
members in almost 70 countries. As the Academy
of Osseointegration enters the 21st
century, its dedication to the highest standards
in patient care, research and education remain
the predominant reason the Academy is the most
renowned dental implant organization in the world.
In February 2003,
Dr. Doundoulakis presided over the academy’s 18th
annual scientific meeting in Boston, the largest
dental implant meeting ever held! This enormous
meeting had over 4,300 attendees visiting from
43 countries. The Academy was joined by the American
Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons,
the American Academy of Periodontology, and the
American College of Prosthodontists - a world-class
event! One that will be described in historic
terms for years to come! The meeting also included
a keynote address from Dr. Harold Slavkin,
Dean of Southern California School of Dentistry
and former Director, National Institute for Dental
and Craniofacial Research, and a closing address
from none other than the pioneering researcher
and "father" of modern implant
dentistry, Professor Per-Ingvar Branemark
from Sweden!
